Can someone help me. How do I get this tub spout off. I have tried everything but the hand of God and cannot figure it out. I am assuming th is is an original spout so maybe 1959. No set screw. I cut off the end to get a look inside but I'm still stumped. Please help, I've got to get these teenagers shower working again so they can get out of my bathroom!

How about a picture where the pipe comes out of the wall? If it's 1959 it may be a 1/2" galvanized pipe nipple coming out of the wall.

Thanks for your reply. This is the best I can get sorry if I'm misunderstanding. I cant get the spout off at all to even see the pipe. That's my issue. I have tried turning clockwise, and counterclockwise no go. :(

What is on the other side of the wall? If there is a closet, there may already be an access panel.

My best guess is that is spins off counter clockwise onto a 1/2" threaded nipple.
You may need an easyout to remove the nipple if the end is too short and corroded.

The caulk and/or grout around the tile end of the spout will make it harder to turn along with the likely rust and corrosion between the spout and the fitting. Counter-clockwise and a bigger wrench may be called for. FWIW, it might have been easier if you hadn't cut it off...I've often had good luck jamming something up in the end of the spout and using it as a lever to unscrew the thing ( a really long, heavy duty screw driver or wrench handle can work)...can't do that now.

I am not a plumber. I would consider sticking the jaws of some cheap long nose pliers in those holes, and turning CCW with a big adjustable wrench. The pliers would be the biggest ones that still let the jaws into the holes quite a bit.

Did you ever get an answer? I have the same kind of adapter exposed after taking off my tub spout. It is stumping all the plumbing pros around here. Our house was built in the late 60's.
