The old pop-up drain was rotted out from all the gunk and hard water, had to eventually cut the assembly in half with a sawzall due to the strainer nut not loosening, I really wanted to avoid doing this because I had never seen a setup like this one before.
The strainer itself that sat in the sink looked like your typical pop up style strainer, but underneath there was a spacer type of fitting between the sink and the tightening nut and gasket, on this spacer was a little tee-off for the overflow tube which sat outside of the countertop and sink itself, a 3/4” or so clear tube that came down from the overflow and was hose clamped down over the tee branch.
The real trouble I’m having is none of three drain assemblies I have tried putting on work, they are all too long and the tightening nut ends up running out of threads before the gasket is squashed in place, plus the strainers barely, just barely, are able to stay sitting inside of the hole in the sink, and these are normal standard sized strainers but the hole and depth of recession in this sink is much more. Not to mention that whatever drain I get to work wont have a tee off for the overflow tube, but I can just add a dishwasher tee tailpiece for that.
Anybody got any ideas or dealt with something similar before? Will a grid or vessel style drain assembly work better?
