I got a new water heater installed about a month ago and wanted to drain about a gallon of water from it to see if it came out clear - the drain valve is a classic brass system operated by screwdriver.

The issue is i accidentally turned to the right(clockwise) and the system actually opened up and water started draining. Is this something I should be concerned about? Does this mean the drain valve is defective? I had to turn the screwdriver to the left to get it to stop draining.

ty for your responses

If it is a quarter-turn valve, it may turn either way, and only needs to be turned 1/4 turn from fully closed to fully open.

Old school vs the new brass drain with 1/4 turn.
