Hi all.

In my shed I installed a Square D Homeline 100 Amp 6 space 12 circuit indoor surface mount main lug load center with the intent of using my 4500 champion generator to power it given its distance from the house.

I use a 4 wire generator extension cord to connect the generator’s 30 amp 4 wire socket to 4 prong outlet box/socket that runs to my panel.

It’s not clear to me if I need a grounding rod at the shed or at the generator...I’ve read a number of things that seems to imply a rod is not needed since the ground wire runs back to the generator and it’s frame serves that purpose. Thoughts on this? Feels odd to not have a grounding rod somewhere in the equation.

The panel itself has lugs for red, black and white...with white tying to the one and only terminal bar installed in this panel.

This would seem to imply that I either need to add one for the grounds or that the ground wires share the terminal bar used by the white/neutral wire. Can someone provide insight as to whether the neutral and ground wires in my config can share the same terminal block?

Thanks so much for any help.

A grounding rod (part of a grounding electrode system) is for lightning protection and voltage stabilization.

Ground and neutral need to be separate with a 4 wire feed. The panel makers are cheap and require you to be a ground bar kit for the 4th wire. Remove the green bonding screw and install this or similar: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Square-D-7-Terminal-Ground-Bar-Kit-PK7GTACP/202353316 Look at the label in the panel box and it should show where the ground bars can attach and most likely gives a part number.
