My husband and I bought our house almost one year ago. A few days after moving in we noticed a strange smell from the laundry room (1st house) so we called our local gas company. The guy they dispatched said it was sewer gas, our drain was dry and to add water. Simple enough, I did and the smell went away.
Now this happens quite frequently, out of habit I now just pour water down the drain to make sure its full. But I haven't done it lately (holiday season!) and today our entire house smelled like sewer gas I poured water down and the smell has finally gone away. The last time it smelled badly was on a very very windy day. (wind warnings issued and all)
Now, my husband has gone up on the roof and checked that vent and its clear. He checked a bunch of pipes around the laundry room and to bathrooms. All clear.
What should we be looking for next? Is it because our furnace does not have a fresh air intake? (on the to do list) or what are some things we can try and look for?
Thanks in advance for all of your input!
