Moen O ring on tub spout for faucet

hi we are trying to install a new moen tub spout but when we slid it on the o ring came off. I can't find anything on where the o ring is supposed to be.

The water is now shooting out the back of the spout by the wall.

Any ideas.

I am having the same problem. I purchased two and the first installed fine. The second had the o-ring down the center of the pipe and water shoots out the back. I’ve tried placing the o-ring in two different places, and it’s not working.

The O-Ring is tucked back there a ways.
The pipe needs to be smooth for the ring to seal.
