I cannot seem to find an answer to this seemingly simple question: can you use the Fernco/rubber tees in place of a sanitary tee when tying a horizontal run into a vertical stack or are they only meant for horizontal use (like in place of a combo tee)? I need to splice into an existing vertical 2" pipe that is solid and just buying a rubber tee seems easier than using the tee with stubs and 2 rubber coupling method. Thanks

I thought I would post a photo of a Fernco QT-200. I expect the answer is that it is not allowed.

If you need to cut out a section and then rebuild it with maybe a fitting that wasn't there, when the pipes cannot be spread apart to use a normal pvc fitting, you have two choices:
- use a repair coupling (not that easy, especially on larger pipe - a repair coupling doesn't have a stop in the middle, so you slide it completely on one section, place the other up against it, then slide it back all quick enough before the cement locks it in place...tough to do!)
- or, use a banded coupling. The band keeps the two ends of pipe aligned and the flexible rubber portion makes it easier You slide the band around it and tighten once the rubber portion is in place.

Hey, wait a minute.
