Hello,
I am plumbing in a bathroom in our basement. Currently there is a laundry room down there that empties into a 2” horizontal drain that gravity drains 28” off the floor into the vertical main stack 25’ away. The washing machine drain is not currently to code with the bottom of the trap being about 30” off the floor (this is how it came with the house). The main stack comes into the house horizontally about 6” off the floor as a 4” pipe and a long sweep 90 followed by a clean out and then an adapter necks it down to a 3” pipe. The sewage basin is next to the washing machine. My plan was to tie the sewage basin into the 2” washing machine drain line with a wye coming in from the top but I worry that if both the washing machine and pump are running at the same time it would overwhelm that 2” drain line. I talked to a plumber and he said to run another washing machine drain line above the current drain line and use the current 2” drain for the sewage pump. I am worried that will cause issues because that would put the washing machine trap even higher off the floor. So I am at a loss as to what to do. Could I turn that 2” drain line into a 3” drain line and have both then sewage pump and washing machine draining into it? Or should I redo the stack with a long sweep wye coming into the house, a clean out at the end of the wye and then a 4x2 or 4x3 wye or sanitary tee above that to run the horizontal drain line into to get the washing machine trap to code. I was told to put the washing machine above the sewage drain line but if I could put the sewage line above the washing machine that would save a headache. I would like to do this right to avoid future headaches. Other than a 8’ stretch behind the bathroom wall, all pipes will be easily accessible in the future. I live in Minnesota. Please let me know if you need more pictures or further clarification on where the plumbing lines run.
Thank you all for your time and help!
