Hello, I an a DIY'er who is embarking on a plumbing journey. Basement is stubbed in for a full bath and that is what I'm attempting to install. I have skills & tools but lack the years of experience this forum can provide. This will be my first attempt to attach to roughed in plumbing. Some questions I'd like to get answered are the following. I'd like to say thank you in advance for any helpful information.

  • Item A in the photo. Is a 2 in. x 2 in. x 1-1/2 in. PVC DWV All Hub Sanitary Reducing Tee the proper fitting? or should I go with 2" from vanity to wet vent?
  • Item B in the photo. Somehow transition from steel to PVC for shower drain? Alternately, remove the steel pipe (has a donut on it at the moment) and use Fernco XHG-2 compression donut or P22U-205 Donut? Trap is in the ground already. Use Hercules® Duck Butter to install new donut into cast hub?
  • Short, pitched horizontal run over to shower drain ok?
  • Setting prefabricated Kohler shower pan directly on concrete slab. If mortar (mud bed mix) is needed, do I need to prep existing, sealed concrete prior to mud bed? Alternately, is it ok to simply set the pan on felt or tar paper? Is this even necessary?
