Hello from a new member!!

I searched this awesome forum, and I found some great answers to my problems (occasional slow drains/clogs that my poor husband has to spend hours snaking out).

I am about to invest in an enzyme cleaner to use for drain maintenance. I see many people recommend Bio-Clean, which costs $50 for two pounds.

I am wondering whether there is another brand that will work for a lower cost.

Also, if I spring for Bio-Clean, how often will I need to use it, and how long will a 2-pound container last?

Many thanks!!

I have tried some of the less expensive enzyme drain cleaners like you buy at the big box stores, but always come back to Bio Clean as it just seems to work better. A 2-lb plastic tub lasts me a year or two of episodic use.

If you have a lot of gunk built up on your pipes (most homes do after some period of time), then you want to follow the directions that come with the Bio Clean. It instructs you to start on the lowest level of the house and treat those drains for a week (if memory serves). Then you move up a floor.

You have to mix up a bucket of the solution and pour into every drain on that floor every night for a week. A bit of a hassle, but really works.

Snaking out drains is a really nasty job. I think Bio Clean, even at $50, and the nightly ritual for a few weeks, is a much better way to go for slow drains. Once they are cleaned out, a once-a-month treatment can keep them that way.

Here is what I find out plumbing.

No sir, I never put grease down my drains.
It's why I use rubber gloves when working on kitchen sinks.
