Backer board around Kohler tub

Thanks for all the help... i have that wall pretty good now....the other side I have another issue. I have a vent pipe that is sticking out beyond the studs about 3/8 in. I could fur the rest of the wall to bring it out but then the joint at the cbu will be way off....any other options ?

I had that same situation, but it was away from the nook. I used the cardboard drywall shims to get the extra space for the collars. Either you cut that vent out so that a single piece of pipe can be used (to avoid the use of connection collars), or you somehow dremel out the back face of the drywall on both faces of the wall cavity and maybe cheat the entire pipe over.... or you remove the CBU and shim it out uniformily.

You obviously dont want to shim out the edge of the CBU because that will mess with the tiling plane.

I was able to dremel a tiny bit out of the backside of the drywall...
