I've looked on line and some tubs don't appear to be fastened and I see some that have screws through the top flange into the studs. Other says place the screw over the top of the flange letting the head hold it down. It's a drop in tub with a ledger board under the rim and a knee wall under the open face.

What is the correct or standard way to secure it in place"?

Also does the wallboard fit on top of the flange or over it by removing the thickness of the flange from the back of the wallboard or cement fiber board in my case.

Id like a little mortar underneath tub to do most of the work. Ive drilled the flange but thats a thick flange and not high so id probebly wedge the screw against top of flange.
Its not really a drop in the hole tub . more of a standard tub with no apron (Im sure Ive never seen one on a job quite like it maybe thats whats "in") what seals the apron and foot side ? or are you framing a wall at the foot ? building a pony wall or something.

just wanted to mention the ledger board and framing you have framed under the tub is not intended to support the tub Just really some stability tub isnt that heavy and if it gets main support from the bottom thats the correct way not suspended above floor . looks good !

Is drywall compound an acceptable substitute for mortar mix for under the tub?

Actually seen a mixed plaster or fixall type stuff. On bigger jobs here like tracts or condos or Apt building new construction the tubs and shower pans are often delivered , spread , and set in place by the tub company And seen them use the plaster type mix it could be dry wall mud. I guess its ok Im not crazy about it but think its probebly safe
