In many, if not most, British homes the ONLY "pressure faucet" is the kitchen sink. Every thing else is gravity fed from the storage cistern in the attic, which has a float valve to keep it full, when pressure in the mains is adequate to lift the water to the attic. In these home you CAN use a "mixer" faucet, except for the kitchen, because both are fed from the same source. If the faucet is connected to a cold pressure source, it would "overwhelm" the hot water side, and possibly back up into the storage tank and overflow it.
