We are building a new house and the basement will be mostly unfinished (will have a full bath and mud room). We are requesting a extra rough in in the basement. Down the road it could be a kitchen, wet bar or bathroom. What kind of rough in should we request? Which is most flexible? Why?

Only the bathroom rough in will accommodate a toilet.

Thanks Terry, how difficult is it to convert a bath rough in to a wet bar rough in?

Converting a rough from a bathroom to bar sink is easy. Filling the hole for the tub/shower and covering over the toilet location is harder.
If you only want a bar sink in the first floor, that's an easy one.

You could build the bar sink over the tub/shower drain rough.
