    Good Morning,
We're on a well and all of the sudden, we lost water. All faucets are dry. The pressure gauge on the expansion tank is at zero.

We've contacted our local service (wells & pumps) and they're coming out tomorrow. However, they told us that it's probably the tank and not the pump. I'm trying to figure out how they can tell that, over the phone. They well pump was replaced about three years ago, by the same company.

The only thing that's been different as far as our usage is that we've been running the sprinklers for new seeding on the lawn. For about two weeks, we've been running each zone (9) for 15 minutes, three times a day. Is it possible that we ran the well dry?

Is there any way to check to see if it's the well pump, tank or if we ran it dry.

Thanks in advance for any tips.
    KM

Not likely the tank. I would guess the pressure switch or the control box, as long as the pump is still good.

Does your pressure switch have a lever?

Voltage and current checks could diagnose the pump if you knew how many horsepower the pump is. When the pump people come ask, for future reference:
    1. make and model of pump
    2. how deep is the well
    3. how deep is the pump set
    4. What is the static water level.
