I've read that chlorine can react with the organics in water and create harmful disinfection by-products. I was curious how a person goes about testing for this?
Is this ever a problem with well water? I've read this is most common with surface water.
The pH of my well water is 8.7. When I have used chlorine in the past, I had to keep really high residuals (I believe around 10 ppm) in order to keep the bacteria and H2S under control. My high dosage always made we worry a about the disinfection by-products. I do clean up my water with centaur carbon, but how do I know the media is doing what it is supposed to do?
Thank you
