Stupid Question Upstream Downstream?

    If it said. Install a solenoid valve upstream from the gas regulator. Does it go before or after the regulator.

    downstream is the direction a stream is flowing.

    So upstream from the regulator would be before the regulator's intake

    Suppose I had a dam on a river.

    The water would come from upstream, and go downstream.

    Also, consider the expression "swimming upstream".
