Have wood burning fireplace converted to gas logs with regulator (Maxitrol R400S) between gas meter and fireplce gas on/orr valve. Gas input to regulator is 2psig.
R400S regulator failed and was replaced with Maxitrol 325-3L. Prior to replacement, fireplace worked fine. Now have smell of burning plastic.
Research indicates that gas log fireplaces require 3.5-7" Water Column which the R400S provided, but the new 325-3L provides 7-11"" WC which may be providing incomplete combustion.
I want to install a 3-6/7" WC regulator but am told they are not available for a 2psi input, only for 1/2psi input.
So some questions:
1. Is 7-11" WC too high for a log fireplace?
2. Is there a 2psi input regulator will provide 3-6" WC?
3. If no such regulator, what can be done to get to 3-6" WC?
Thanks in advance.
