hello all,
I just reinstalled all the bathtub/shower hardware ([spout/shower head/handle~~the original valve body remained]. after a complete new tub/tile job). In doing so the 1/2” copper drop from the valve body to the tub spout sprung a leak. I replaced that short drop with PEX fittings/pipe to fix the problem and ended up with “shower rise”. I’m just learning all about this now and how PEX to the spout is a problem because of flow restriction (even though it’s all 1/2”). My question is : since my copper pipes are 1/2” can I just go back and use 3/4” PEX to the spout and relieve the restriction? I’m thinking the 3/4” PEX I.d. would act similar to having normal 1/2” copper I.d. and hopefully cause little change in pressure. Or do you think there will still be restriction within the elbows.... it makes since in my head but IM NO PRO.
So from the valve body, there would be : [ 1/2” threaded x 3/4” PEX adapter ]___a short length of 3/4” PEX pipe (around 2-3”or so) ——[3/4” PEX x 1/2” threaded drop elbow] then the remaining 1/2” pipe/nipple that goes through the wall (that the spout screws on to). Has anyone ever successfully tried this?
Thanks in advance!!
