Hello Guys,

Does this look like it is or could be replaced by a Moen 1222 cartridge? I haven't tried to pull it out yet because I have folks needing to shower yet this evening, and I'm a 90 minute round trip from my big box store. So I wanted to start fresh in the morning to give me time in case I break the darn thing removing it (knock on wood).

Looking online it looks similar to the 1222 positemp, but I'm also aware there could be small nuances that an amateur like me might miss, that you guys wouldn't.

Thanks much for any help.

That is the Moen Posi-Temp,
It takes the 1222 cartridge.
Remember to pull the clip before trying to remove it, and it's a good idea to pick up a cartridge removal tool.

Great, Terry, thanks much for your help. I do plan to get the puller tool this time. I think I replaced that cartridge about 12 years ago (and should have written down the model somewhere!) and at that time used a vice grip and levered off a piece of wood against the tile to back it out. But I'm afraid after so long in place, I really don't want to mess around this time.

Thanks again.

Edit/update -

The old cartridge came out okay with just the supplied plastic twist piece (I put channel locks on the white plastic body part rather than the brass stem which I think helped avoid pulling just the core). I did buy the puller just in case.

Except for this one little booger piece off the back of the cartridge. It was stuck to the back wall of the valve body and I couldn't get needle nose in there to reach it, so it took some fiddling with a piece of wire to knock it loose and get it out.

The space was also kind of tight and I was scared I'd lose the retaining clip down the wall trying to put it back on, so I tied fishing line through the top hole and the other end around my wrist. Figured others might find this useful, although people who do this a lot probably don't drop the clips anyway.

Thanks again. This is a great website. I usually get all the info I need by just searching and without even having to ask questions.
