Removing shower drain/ shower remodel

Im Remodeling the bathroom in my upstairs apartment. My house was built in 1905, I purchased it in 2016, i don’t know anything about the history or when/ how many times this bathroom has been remodeled.
I had hired someone to do the job, but with the whole corona thing he has since stopped showing up(that’s a whole different topic ) So I am currently left with this...

Im going to build A shower pan, so i have ripped out the first layer of tile, here is my current situation.

I plan on having to cut out the current shower drain. I can’t access under the shower, and I’m worried about what problems i could come across once i start. Any information would be appreciated.

You need to keep going and tear out both the remnants of the pan. You'll probably want to use a new drain in the process. IF the thing had a liner, it's toast now. Code requires, in a conventional shower, for the liner to go at LEAST 3" above the top of the curb (well, there can't be any penetrations to the liner lower than 2" above the top of the curb, so you normally need at least another inch to then be able to fasten the liner to the studs), and if there was one, you've cut it off and there's no way to bond a new one in place.

While there are numerous ways to build a long-lasting, code compliant, tiled shower, the oldest one is referred to as a conventional one and consists of the following layers on the pan:
- preslope
- liner
- setting bed
- thinset and tile

I got the top off the old drain today. It looks like it is all cast iron maybe?
