I know I've had this problem before, and I can't remember how I solved it.
I recently repaired a crack in the tank of an old Standard toilet. I think it's 1951. The old spud and gasket were unsalvagable. Tank is stamped 195 40547.
When trying to install a new flush valve, the gasket is way too thick. The tank sits up on the gasket when I put it on the bowl, and the 3" bolts don't even make it through the tank and out through the holes on the bowl. I know I can get longer bolts, but from experience I know I would have to absolutely reef on them to get the tank to a place that it doesn't wobble because it still sits too high on the gasket.
What am I missing here?
