We recently purchased a new home, with it came a brand new well. It was drilled July 9, we just moved in September 1, so it had only been actively being used since then. First time home owners here, and we don’t know anything about this. We’ve got black/dark grey sediment coming up in all our pipes and toilet tanks, faucets, etc. Is there a way to clear this? I saw some mention in another thread of attaching a house and letting it run from the well tank? We just don’t want to do the wrong thing and burn up the well pump or anything like that! Any help and advice is much appreciated! Thank you in advance

Yeah try to pump it out. Run enough hoses to keep the pump from cycling off, and let it run. If water stops coming out, shut the pump off as you may have pumped the well dry. Running the pump dry is really your only possibility of hurting the pump. So, either keep an eye on it or get a Cycle Sensor to protect from running dry and it will watch it for you.

If/when the water clears up, shut the pump off for 20-30 minutes and run it again. Sometimes you have to do this instead of running steady to get the sediment cleaned out.
