I was curious if there are simple/reliable instrumentation that can be integrated into residential water systems that doesn't break the bank? I see stuff sensors that integrate with Arduino and Raspberry Pi, but I can't tell the reliability of such equipment. I'm curious if reliable, low cost sensors exist?

Some sensor technology is inexpensive and reliable. A simple 4-20mah WIKA pressure transducer is about $200 and we have seen them hold accurate for a decade without the need for calibration. We have some Chinese ones that are about 1/3 the cost, not so good but if you plan on replacing every 3-5 years, these can work. Online TDS monitors also tend to be reliable and only require intermittent cleaning. From my 30 years of experience, you definitely get what you pay for when it comes to this type of equipment.
