Plumbing code likes to see a hammer arrestor for icemakers. Otherwise they can cause the pipes to bang whenever the ice trays refill. Often in the quiet of the night.

Here are a few.

I do not like extra parts than can leak.

If manufactures would use better water valves for the ice maker that extra hardware would not be needed.

It isn't a question of when I installed my last one, because I have NEVER installed an arrestor on an icemaker.

My engineer friend used to wake up every night when the ice tray filled. The pipes would bang, and that would be enough.
He finally installed the hammer arrestor I gave him, and that was enough to prevent his pipes from banging. He now sleeps through the night.
Like a baby.

Terry - What type of connection are you making at the bottom of the box? What are you using to connect the threads to the pipe? Thanks.

NO connection. You insert the tubing INTO the valve and solder it.
Sorry. It looked like the white and blue parts in the pictures were a type of PEX or poly. Didn't realize they were able to be soldered.

You can buy boxes with the PEX ends, or the ones that take copper pipe.
Since my supplier has PEX boxes that don't work with Uponor, I guy the standard box that takes copper and solder either a PEX adapter into the end, or copper pipe.
