hi all, just laid my premade shower pan into a bed of rapid set mortar mix. how long before i can walk on the shower pan to install my cement board? here is the product.
Read the mortar bag's fine print or data sheet...many rapid set mortars can be worked on after a few hours. 24-hours is safe, but it may not be anywhere near that long.
says sets in 15-minutes and ready to walk on in an hour. Cement based products do not need to dry to cure...it might stay internally wet, but that doesn't affect it's strength. Cement curing is a chemical event, not a drying one. It doesn't' start until it gets wet, but it uses that water to actually incorporate it into its chemical structure...the excess dries. Now, a modified thinset, for example, if using latex for the modifier, DOES need to dry, but a cement product, does not. FWIW, on modified thinsets, there are other types that do not need to dry to attain their strength, but latex based ones do. Your stuff doesn't have any latex in it, only cement and sand.
