How do you know what construction developers offer good construction and which one(s) do not in an area?
If this is not the forum for this kind of question, then do you have any suggestions of a good forum?

Specifically for me, Philadelphia and surrounding areas.

I've heard from several people that Toll Brothers construction is not good. They seem to do a decent job creating appearances and picking/creating good locations.

    Thank you.

You are in the wrong place, but since you are already here...

Huge builders, like Toll brothers and others, are track home builders, for profit construction companies. They will build to code, pass inspection, give you a 12 month warranty and disappear.

For a fat bottom line, they squeeze their subs to the max, and sometimes the subs will give you inferior job, use less quality materials, etc. to make ends meet.

If you want real construction quality, look for a custom home builder, and be prepared to pay premium. A new home is a very complicated animal, which takes a long tome to build, with a long list of materials, a long list of subs and subject to weather conditions. When I was building, I had a million things on my mind going on at the same time, which is sometimes very difficult to supervise.

You mentioned Toll Bros' ability to pick good locations - and this my friend is the number one tool in marketing. Toll bros and other large construction companies have the resources to purchase land in the better locations, have the muscle to get building permits and to deal with the building departments, and therefore have an advantage over small builders who in most cases deliver better quality homes.

If you go on sites like yelp, you can read what unsatisfied customers complain about, then you make your choice.
