Hi all. I want to add a hand pump to my well setup. We live in a on an island in a pretty remote area. Power outages are not frequent, but can last a week or two. Our well: 75' to static water and well is about 180' total. We have an electric submersible that works fine when the electricity is working. Based on my initial research, it seems that there are about 4 options:

Simple pump: Price would be around $1800.
Bison pump: Price would likely still be around $1800
Flojak pump: Price would be around $900
Solar Power Systems pump: Price would be around $800.

So far it has been very difficult to get unbiased reviews of these products. I was hoping some folks here might be able to provide some information to help me evaluate the quality of the different hand pump options for my relatively deep well. I would like something that is not going to need a lot of maintenance and is going to work for many years. Any comments, information or help is much appreciated.

    Thank you!!

$1800 for a hand-pump? Are you Bill Gates brother?
Here is one instance where you can thank the Chinese for constructing bascially the same pump for $40 USD ( Harbor Freight )
Heres what you do, buy a chinese hand pump off Harbor Freight or Northern Tool and see if your really going to enjoy the idea of hand pumping water from that far down.. If you dont mind it, go give Bison Pumps $1800 for a hand pump ( its your money do as you like ) If after awhile you relaize its not what you expected?? Go purchase a cheap gas generator and set your electric pump up to be used off that when need be.. GL

Since electric power isn't always dependable I'd consider a backup generator then you could run other appliances as well.
Solar is great but is expensive. Hand pumps require manpower and maintenance. I don't recommend Bison pumps, Flojack pumps and Simple pumps. Most all Chinese products are junk!

the harbor freight pump head must be IN the water unless your water is at 25 feet. You need a windmill cylinder us made and forever, practically, and the associated stuff.
