im a total novice but is this unusual? all videos ive seen the water supply tube was straight but mine is tilted down for some reason. every time i put the new tub spout on, there is a 1/4 inch gap. if i cut the copper will it work or is my problem that the line is tilted downwards?

The stub for the spout must be level if you want it to slide up squarely to the wall.
