My well head is located inside an underground concrete "room", at least 6 feet below ground surface. From there it travels to my ancient basement, about 7 feet away. It's a very porous stone foundation. I haven't had leaks into basement, since raising the level of soil around the house 20 years ago. I've noticed the corner where the water tank and softener are, are consistently very damp, even after going all out with dehumidifiers and fans. Is there anyway I can test for leaks in that buried pipe, without digging the whole thing up? Yes I'm hoping for a miracle.

pressure testing would require isolation shut off valves and a tee branch where a pressure test gauge can be used.

Turn off the breaker to the pump, and see if there is pressure drop while you were away. If no pressure drop, no leak.

You might want to put a sump pit into that corner of the basement.

The proper thing to do, for sanitary reasons, is to take at least the top off of the pit, have the casing extended above ground, and have a pitless adapter installed. Local rules required that two walls of the pit get demolished in the process. The pit top and wall remains were buried nearby so they did not have to haul the stuff away.

Well seals seldom live up to their name. Pits flood. I was motivated to get my pit demolished and have a pitless installed when I scrubbed out my pit with an excess of liquid laundry detergent. Later I found soap suds from my kitchen faucet.

As a temporary measure, I put a utility pump in my pit until the work could be done.
