Bathroom sink pop up

I'm installing a Moen Kingsley handle set and it comes with a pop up with two holes for the pivot rod (see attached photo). If I put the pivot rod in the top hole, the pop up wobbles. The pivot rod isn't long enough to stay in the bottom hole.

You will need a longer rod (no, not that kind). Available everywhere.

Do you have the stopper bottom hole rotated close to the back wall?

Yes, the white plastic piece that extends bast the ball (pictured below) is too short. In fact, I can put the pop up stopper bottom hole into it while the rod is installed.
