Hi folks,

I’ve got a client trying to resuscitate some vintage faucets manufactured by A.Y. McDonald Mfg. They look to be maybe 1930s. They function but leak badly around the stem when open. Trying to figure out how to rebuild the packing bushing. The fiber washer at the top seals it off OK when the valve is shut, but when open it leaks out the top of the packing nut around the stem.

Anyone familiar with this kind of packing nut and where I might find parts? The company is still in existence in Iowa, but they can’t help.

Steve

Was going to look them up in my parts book, but someone with way too much OCD misplaced my books.. will try to track them down to check.

Just add strand of graphite wick/rope while keeping the existing.
I suppose there are packing still available, but I don't see it stocked at plumbing supply shops...maybe hardware stores. Like start with Danco felt bonnet packing and add more string packing
