I did a service call today for a military veteran. This lady lost both of her legs at the knees. She is also missing both hands. So she has some difficult challenges. So she uses WIPES because it is difficult to clean herself after using the restroom. As a result she uses A LOT of wipes and it causes her issues with her plumbing.

When I spoke with her today, I mentioned that an ADA toilet, self flushing, with bidet (warm water and warm air drying) would make a huge difference for her maintaining some normalcy and independence.

SUGGESTIONS REQUESTED.... toilet/bidet/ada/self flushing. Lavatory faucets? shower faucets? kitchen faucet? I have to imagine myself in that same situation. I would want to be able to use the lavatory, shower, kitchen, etc. etc. without any help. The more I could make use of equipment to return as much of my independence, the better. ideas?

Toto makes their washlets seats with an Autoflush option that retro fits into certain toilets.. in this case a Drake coupled with the S550e washlet seat. Auto open/close seat.

Not sure about shower fixtures, but we have installed a few of the Moen U - digital controlled showers that are just push button interfaces up to 4 outlets.

Delta makes great touch activated faucets. Set the lever handle where it wants to be and touch to activate.
Moen makes a touchless faucet that has a feature that one motion turns on the faucet to the handle temperature and another motion turns the water on to a specified temperature.

*I used to only do commercial work and most of it had to be accessible. But nobody installing it ever had to use it. I borrowed a wheelchair and tried to make my way through a brand new installation.. and it sucked. Everything was made essentially for abled bodied people with crap work arounds for wheelchairs. There is a movement/idea to build for accessibility first which makes everything work for everybody.

Think I'd start with a call to Kohlor ask about amputee resources like a product line or engineer just looking for suggestions. Maybe a company that makes limbs. Call the va just get lost in the shuffle.
