I chlorinated my well this weekend, and just thinking back I’m just curious if I followed all the correct steps, particularly at the end of the process. I did a lot of research and used online government/city guides.
I have a shallow well, 6 inch casing, 64 feet to bottom of pump, 15 feet to static water level.
I used 1 cup of bleach, diluted in 3 gallons of water.
Poured down the well, ran the hose into the well for about 30 minutes to circulate. After testing the hose water for chlorine, I went instead and turned on all faucets until chlorine was present. (Bypassed Water softener, water heater, etc)
Closed all lines and let it sit for 24 hours.
Today, I ran the hose to remove all chlorine from the system, ran inside faucets until no chlorine was present in a test strip and smell.
I chlorinated my water softener separately as instructed in the manual.
My only concern was the final rinse process, I rinsed the inside casing of the well with the fresh water today after chlorine was not present. I rinsed it really well and closed it all up.
My question is, was it good to really spray and rinse the pitless adaptor? I used the hose without a nozzle on it, and really put a lot of water on the pitless for several minutes and also rinsed the inside of the well. Is the best practice? Could the rinsing from the hose damage the pitless connection? I’m sort of worried i could of caused damages from rinsing it a lot with water?
