We have been at our house for 10 years. The washing machine drain pump only lasts 3-4 years due what i believe is a poor setup of the drainage. The drain is directly connected to a 2 in PVC pipe that ties in with the kitchen sink above. There is also a check value to prevent backflow. The max height of the drain from the floor is about 90 inches which is within the max specs that the washing machine can pump.
4 years ago when the water pump died i shortened the vertical PVC pipe. The washing machine drain hose partially laid on the floor making the total distance longer for the pump to work. I was hoping that shorting that PVC section the drain pump would last a little longer than 4 years. I think it's time to just do the job correctly though.
The washing machine (and kitchen sink) is the red circled 2" pipe in the top of the picture that flows into the main stack. There is also a tie into the main stack for a sulfer tank drain. I'm thinking the best fix would be to tie into the main stack just like the guy who installed our sulfer tank? Then follow the normal washing machine guidelines which would be a 2 foot high 2"PVC standpipe following the height guidelines for the washing machine.
Your thoughts on these modifications would be greatly appreciated!
