Hello, so, I just moved into a house that was built in the 50's. The washer & dryer were moved to the level above
where they were originally.
They ran PVC from a makeshift standpipe by washer, down through a hole and over to drain pipe at an angle.
Then, there is another pipe off the standpipe, that ends in a p trap, which they had the AC condensate hose sticking in that....
So, the other day, the drain backed up, and after some baking soda, vinegar, ended up bubbling out some stuff, along with some soup! Which tells me was coming from main drain. I snaked the line, and think I got through the blockage. Seems to be draining fine.
However, when the washer empties there is a gurgling sound coming from where they had the condensate line placed.
Soooooo...my questions are:
1) Is the gurgling sound normal?
2) there is no drain in our basement, is
this a good way to empty the
condensate line.
3) how about the drain from the
washer? Is that good? Is it too
long? Does it need a seperate vent?
4) The p trap in the basement will get
dry in winter with no condensation.
Will this let gasses into the
basement?
5) is that p trap being emptied out by
the water expelled from the
washer? ( I did add water to it).
Maybe this is making the gurgling
When emptying?
Any help and insight you can give would be great. I'm a DIY'er, but plumbing is definitely not my specialty!! I have attached pics, hope you can decipher them...
