I have a 50-year-old cast iron and galvanized p-trap and washer drain that was set up for a basement laundry area and was never used.

I am plumbing the supply lines using a washer box.

The drain pipe is short -- it ends at about 22 inches off the floor. At the top there is piece that curves out of the wall a little to accept the washer drain line.

I would like the drain to be taller and join it to the washer box. The washer is on a little concrete pad raised up above the floor level and moving it out will be a nuisance.

The galvanized pipe connections won't budge. What options do I have?

I would look to extend the galvanized standpipe up using 2 inch PVC and an appropriate shielded coupling. If your "piece that curves" does not make that practical, describe what you have. A photo describes best. 900 pixels max. 200KB max.

Your standpipe may be smaller than current standards call for. But it would be nice if it can accept the drainage fast enough.
