I have installed several Toto toilets over the past few years, and until now I have been very satisfied with them. Today, however, I am quite disappointed. I was having some trouble with the fill valve in a Promenade that I installed about 3 years ago. It's the "A" fill valve, and I saw a post from Terry about how to remove the screen and clean it, which seemed worth a try before replacing it. When I emptied the tank I noticed a crack near the corner where the bottom meets the front of the tank. The crack doesn't go all of the way through, and while I'm tempted to patch it, the risk that it might crack through at an inopportune time is just too great.

I called Toto and they confirmed that a crack in a spot like that could only be a defect in the porcelain, but they were unwilling to do anything about it, since the warranty is only 1 year. I just ordered a new tank for $200, and I'm not feeling very good about Toto right now.

I've seen that before too.
I think I've installed quite a few that had that look. That's just on the surface. I wouldn't worry about it.

Hmm. So just what do you not understand about how long a 1 year warranty should last? Should I be angry at Ford when parts for my 1979 F 150 fail?

I understand the 1 year warranty, but on parts that fail not due to wear - either normal or not - but which fail due to a manufacturing defect, I would hope (if not expect) that a reputable manufacturer would stand behind their product. On you 1979 F 150 if there had been a manufacturing defect it would most likely be covered by a no cost recall, even if it were well beyond the warranty period.

As it turns out, the issue is really not a defect according to both HJ and Terry. Out of an abundance of caution I filled the crack with plumbers epoxy, since it was already empty and I had the epoxy.
