Hi Guys,

I cracked open toilets today and snapped some pictures of one... Looks like I have some "furry" black stuff, maybe it's a rubber just slowly failing ?

And there is lots of sand at the bottom ... I'm on city water ...

I was looking for biofilm ( as I'm on whole house GAC filter, so no chlorine )

Add a tablespoon of chlorine bleach. Swirl, and maybe brush. Let the chlorinated water sit for a while. Detergent could work too.

You might also want to consider bypassing your carbon for a while to let your pipes get chlorine for a bit. I don't know how long it would take. If you could add some bleach via a cartridge filter housing, you could speed up the process and be more effective.

I might comment that your toilet tank is not particularly scuzzy, so don't think this is urgent.
