I have a question about my shower valve. The valve in my shower is sticking. It's the type that you pull the knob to start the water flow. Pulling the knob is a little tough to do but pushing the knob back in to stop the flow is really hard. I have to twist and push hard to get it back in. Is there any way to fix this by lubricating or does the valve have to be replaced. I'm in the process of selling my house so if there's a quick fix that would be much better.

You may be able to free it some with lubrication.
A new cartridge could run about $20
But it would be new. And it would work like a charm.

It sounds like an older Moen. There is a pulling tool that can range from $10.00-$45.00 depending on where you get it.
The stem can sometimes pull out leaveing 3/4 of the cartridge in the valve. If this happens you'll have lots of fun. You should start early on the morning you plan to do it so you have plenty of time should you have a problem.
If it only takes a few min. you can tell the wife that you just saved tons of $$$ and head for the golf links or what ever you like to do.
You can always call a plumber if you get in over your head unless your in an area that it takes days to get a plumber.
