Hello All,

Any help that could be provided would be much appreciated. I live in house built in the early 50's ('55 i believe) in Northern Virginia. I was trying to replace the seat and stem set-up in the bathroom, and I was told I would need American Standard hardware, I ordered from a recommended supplier, and when I got in there to do the work, I found that the hardware I received was slightly too large for the existing pipes (maybe 1 - 2 millimeters). I don't really see too many different sizes for this type of hardware available. Is there any place to get something that will fit 50's pipe? Or am I just up the creek here, and need to replace the pipe behind the wall?

Thank you in advance!

Each brand and model tends to have its own, unique requirements. And, those sometimes change depending on the year or whim of the manufacturer. Can you post a picture of what you have that you want to replace along with a picture of the faucet as well? Someone may be able to help you decipher what's needed. Often, the best way to get the right part is to take the old one(s) to the plumbing supply shop and compare directly.

American Standard, like many other companies, makes several different sized seat and stems for their various models. You have to know WHICH ONE you have before ordering any parts for them.

Just an update on my saga. After interacting with a few other professionals, the diagnosis of my parts need was Price-Pfiester, after going to a specialty shop and getting back home and coming up empty, I was at it again, then a professional at Home Depot tried to tell me it was American Brass! I about fell on the floor, before I used some of their research tools, and nailed down Sterling. Parts in the mail, will let you know!

Thank you all for your help!
