Hello

My home was built in 1954. The shower stall has the American Standard Tract Line faucets. see catalog page below

I've been dealing with a slow drip shower head coming from the hot side for a long time, I have changed the washer often and have taken a metal brush to the seat and its still a nuisance. I even bought a seat grinding refinishing tool however can't get it to work with the wall tile and how far in the wall the body and seat are.

So I want to change the seat out. I have a replacement seat and it is a 1/4" hex.

Below is a photo of the existing seat. From the photo take a long time ago if you zoom in it looks like a hex as well. I will confirm when I remove the stem.

Looking for tips on replacing the seat. I am not sure if it was ever replaced. The home was built in 1954 and I have lived in it since 2003.

Should I take a paper towel and screwdriver and push it into the body to get the puddle of water out and then spray some penetrating oil like liquid wrench or PB blaster? Should I just attempt to loosen it or should I tighten it slightly and then loosen it? I ask these questions as I am anticipating it being difficult to remove. Perhaps I am over thinking it and it will come out easily.

Any tips or advice you can share for removing and replacing the seat would be appreciated.

Thanks!!
