Hi fellow plumbers and DIYers,

I am looking to replace my 27-year-old WELL-X-TROL WX-203. I just had the 32 year old Jacuzzi well pump replaced with a Grudfos 10SQ07-200. The draw is now causing the second check valve in the basement main inlet to chatter. I want to completely remove this second check.

The check looks to be threaded onto some highly rated plastic. Do I need to worry about anything when removing this check and replacing it with a fitting? I plan to run the 1" copper to the new tank tee which reduces at the tee to 3/4". Should I maintain 1" to the softener system or is 3/4" fine?

Thanks so much.

Like you said the second check valve should be removed. I would use metal barb fittings with two hose clamps to the poly pipe. 27 year old tank and 32 year old pump proves how long the old pressure tank method can make things last. But in areas where a lot of irrigation is used the same pump system would have cycled itself to death in just a few years. Even so, cycling on and off is the reason your pump system only lasted 30 years instead of 50. The only thing that could make that pump system better is to add a Cycle Stop Valve. The CSV system will work with any size tank, but really only needs a 4.5 gallon size tank. Not only would a CSV make the pump and tank last even longer, but would deliver such strong constant pressure in the shower that soap would no longer be needed. Lol.

Thank you Cary, appreciate the feedback.
