Hi everyone,

I’ve purchased a brand new house in ontario, canada. Black specks are coming out of hot water and can only see them in free standing bath tub. They are very tiny and stick on bottom of tub. Plumber came and changed the whole faucet set with brand new one.

He said its pex pipe coming straight to the tub no washers or anything in between. Also, ive got tankless hot water. Plumber said he does not know the reason.

If you guys can help suggesting what could be the reason, would be great help.

Is there a flexible line delivering hot water to the problem tub? The "stainless steel" flex lines are really rubber tubes that are covered with a metal braid. Some shed black stuff.

latest update is: issue is just not with one bath tub. I can see specks in all other bathrooms as well when hot water is turned on.

You might have what reach said or washers in other fixtures upstream in the water system. Investigate all of your fixtures and call the manufacturer of your tankless water heater.

Test the water for ph and tds. Navian has specs in th theWhen ever you heat water drives out the minerals.
Wonder if you called your water company and try to talk to water treatment specialist (WTS). Shut the gas off to the heater, flush the hot water line then fill the tub straight hot water see if any specs show up. Turn gas back on reset the heater.

Sinks faucets have aerators that have screens. Need to pull them and inspect. House end of the line?
Took aerators out and can see specks in all facets, particularly when hot water is turned on. House is at the end from now as other house next to me are still under construction

Were you able to solve this issue? I'm currently experiencing this. I hired a plumber to run vinegar through the pipes from the main shut off all the way to the tub experiencing the issue. Tons of black stuff came out. I think my pipes are coated with this from years of some sort of buildup. Ran the water both hot and cold for an hour or so over a week but still seeing black specks / flakes.

I have a water softener system and tankless both are less than a year old. Not sure what to do.
