I’ve got a bit of a dumb question, I suppose. I’ve done my fair share of plumbing, but I’ve never had to select and install a new shower fixture/faucet and I could really use some guidance. Am I better off buying a quality shower valve and then buying a trim set separately? I’m
assuming that the quality of the valve is more important than the trim set.
Thanks

I've always used the delta multichoice valve body, then you have a ton of different trim and cartridges to choose from. I always buy from supplyhouse.com

I would choose the valve and the trim at the same time to make sure you are happy with the quality and value of the combination. When you buy your valve, you're basically locking yourself in to buy a trim kit from that manufacturer that is compatible with the valve, so it would be smart to make sure there is a compatible trim kit that meets your price and quality expectations. I also like the delta valve body. With this option, it is actually the trim which determines important features, such as whether the valve is thermostatic or pressure balancing. If it's your shower, I think a thermostatic valve is pretty nice, but it's your shower and your money.

Hey, wait a minute.

This is awkward, but...
