We recently took possession of a vacation home. Need to update softener system.

History:

Existing softener installed 28 years ago. (Fleck 2510)

15 years ago the point rusted out and sand was coming out the faucets.

A 75’ well was drilled.

The softener was not recalibrated - water not retested or media replaced.

There is a whole house filter after the softener and a small carbon filter at the sink.

No info on media type.

Don’t use much salt.

Now:

We are remodeling so need to move softener and will replace.

The softener still works (amazingly) and the water is fine.

Water hardness by Hach 5B is 3.

Iron by strip test is 1.5 - 2 ppm.

No rotten egg emall.

Water turns tea color after short time. (In wooded setting - tannins I suppose)

No sediment in water.

` House used part time. Sometimes empty for two months. 75% occupied in summer.

Usually 2 persons. 1 1/2 bath.

Well puts out 5.5 gpm. System has 3/4 copper pipe.

Need advice on equipment and source. Have some familiarity with fleck 5600 SXT.

Do you have a full well water report? Can you get a tannin test done? It is hard to make a good recommendation without a proper water test.
