I have a Moentrol shower valve that no water will come out of the showerhead. The handle will not pull out at all. The valve has had all of the temperature stops removed before I got there and the valve is pretty much a mess. The problem is that the valve backs up to a vanity so to replace it will involve removing the vanity that is built in. My questions are:

1 - What replacement cartridge does a Moentrol valve use?

2 - What is the odds of getting the balancing valve out? I have read that the odds are 50/50.

3 - What is the odds of getting the valve cartridge out?

The house was built in 1998 i have been told and is used during the summer so it sits vacant a lot of the time. The water in the area is well water and is very hard.

I suggest an experienced plumber do this.
the cartridge is basic 1225
I've never not gotten a balancing spool out.
there are valve removal tools and the trick of spinning the cartridge first to free up in the valve body

Moentrol refers to the push pull cartridge body with a capped separate balancing spool that can be serviced.

It was an early pressure balance device but, I hate the old push pull Moen cartridges as they get hard to operate pretty quickly.
And, those long screwdriver slots are not particularly deep.
