This doesn't have anything directly to do with your venting issues, but are you aware that a shower is supposed to have a 2" drain? Tubs use 1-1/2" because the tub acts as a large holding tank in the event of a slow drain. However, a shower doesn't have that much holding area. This would be the time to take care of that issue. I'll let you square off with the more knowledgeable plumbers on the venting issue.

Yeah... I'm getting that from another forum now...

Do they make some kind of way to fit a 2" trap in a 2x6 joist?
