Hard sprinkler water

We have hard well water, I think 26 grains, and we get white stains and paint/metal corrosion from the sprinklers.
Two things.
-Is it possible that something besides the hardness is causing the corrosion?
-Would it make sense to use a salt less water conditioning system on the irrigation line or is there some other solution people use for sprinkler lines?

I had a home in Algonquin, Illinois with similar hardness, city water, 29 grams but no irrigation system. I doubt what you see is corrosion but just a build up of minerals. You might want to get the water tested to see what's in the water. Low PH levels are acidic that can cause corrosion with metals.

Water conditioners might be helpful but hard water deposits will still be present but easily removed. A phone call to any water conditioner company should be done. I have no experience with salt less conditioners, however, since all minerals are left intact, it shouldn't hurt plantings.

Below the Aquasana unit is good for 1 millions gallons, however, for irrigation you can easily go through thousands of gallons per irrigation cycle. You'll need to get a number of the approximate gallons per minute or per hour per zone so that you do not exceed the capacity of the conditioner media making contact with the water.

No, and no. There are some who think the saltless (TAC) devices are not hoaxes. I am not one. There is no test to distinguish the water passing thru one of those from untreated water.

You could use a water deionizer, but people don't do that. It is expensive.
