Gastite pipe...

helping my dad redo his laundry room and we are moving the gas line for his dryer. the old line that still there has a bunch of reducer fittings below and above the floor and he wants to replace everything. I know you cant run flexible gas line up thru the floor, which is what he wanted to do. So now Im looking for the correct way. I found this Gastite pipe that has a flange built into it with threaded pipe on both sides of that flange. is this something i could use to route the gas up thru the floor? see link below. thank you for all that apply.

They make a similar fitting that transitions from flexible Gastite to a floor flange that you would mount on the bottom plate and use a threaded elbow to stub out for your shut off valve or just up through the floor with a valve on the termination fitting.

What you need to be very careful with CSST or flexible stainless tubing is protecting it from nail strikes. Any point where it protrudes through framing closer than 3 inches from the face, must be protected by Hardened steel nail plates.. they're big and expensive.

there shouldnt be a mess of fittings to go through a floor and put a 90 on out the wall? So my opinion is there is no way you need to get involved with anything other than standard threaded gas pipe. of cource there may be a lot more to the story but based on what you said

Ok. perhaps staying away from the flexpipe and sticking with the black steel pipe is the best way to go. was just trying to make this job easier. thank you for the replies.

whatever works for you but wouldnt it just be a few nipples and 90s? Ive never used gas tite fittings and piping kina expensive too ? I think you might be required to ground the system too

Any brand of that style flex gas pipe need a certification that you can get on line from the manufacturer site. They also make special tubing cutters and wheels for the stainless tubing.

Definately get the cert. its like getting an Astronaut licence on the back of a cerial box or comic book though. by all means its good to follow up on that stuff .
Im just wondering if in every case GasTite is easier to run . I have no fear and nothing against using it but I dont think it is better than screwed pipe in many /any instantces except maybe a vibration or siesmic concern is involved
